It’s all about the ’80s rave this summer. Who wouldn’t like some nostalgia mixed in with their punch this time of year, right? Though some of us are a bit over the neon phase and totally ditched the legwarmers (or any of its iterations, for that matter), I’m still in love with hints of metal.
It’s not in the same level of difficulty as Pantone’s Greenery, but boy, metallic shades can also be quite difficult to pull off. Like its sibling trend glitter, metals rely on the right amount of sheen to avoid tipping over the edge of tacky. You also have to choose colors that match with your undertone, so as to keep it from being overshadowed and for it to actually do its job, which is to dazzle.
The holidays may be over, but the metals are here to stay. A great way to sport these without blinding anybody is to pick shades that help bring attention to focal points of your face, say, your eyes or your lips. Tightline your eyes with warm bronzes and rusty reds to add depth, or you could opt for silver liners to make them pop.
In case you’re so over nail art like me, metal also looks great on nails. Chrome nails have been the rage since last year and I think more will get into this trend just because of its sophisticated, sleek, “I’m-so-cool-I-was-born-in-the-future” feel to it.
Still thinking twice? Let me show you how designers, labels, Youtubers, and makeup artists have pulled it off so far.
