Keeping Up with Pantone’s Color of the Year “Greenery”

Culture / January 06, 2017

Green isn’t always the most flattering color. Imagine my surprise when Pantone announced “Greenery” as 2017’s ‘It’ hue. Nature’s most prominent shade is going to blow up in every facet of design this year, from interiors and fashion to food and lifestyle.

Unlike the deep emerald green of 2013 past, this yellow-green hue (specificially Pantone 15-0343) is a more upbeat one. It signifies fresh starts and hopeful thinking; it encourages reconnection with nature and minimalist approaches.

Here’s how to pull off this tricky color easily.

Keep It Green-neutral

Greenery may look like an intimidating color but in their Spring/Summer 2017 show, Gucci proves there’s nothing to be afraid of. The luxury brand we all love turned the shade into some sort of nude hue, pairing a muted version of the Pantone color with tones in distant color families. Pale yellows, blues, and lavender pair well with Greenery without upstaging it, too.

Glam Green

If you’re not into green-hued fashion, try the trending color on your face and nails. Butter London keeps up with the times by aptly releasing a nail lacquer in the shade—what else?—Greenery. Vegan label Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics also carries a super pigmented polish of the hue.

For the face, try the shade on your lids with the Make Up For Ever Artist Eyeshadow in Acidic Green. Keep everything else subtle so the color would pop. Skincare-wise, dab on serums and other products fortified by leaves like the Éminence Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum that delivers optimal antioxidant benefits, and the Skin Inc Collagen Serum filled with seaweed capsules that promote elasticity and suppleness.

Greener Home

It goes without saying that the foolproof way of injecting the Pantone color to our homes is by naturally growing more plants there. But if you want to add extra luxurious touches, design brands like Hancock and Moore and Jessica Charles have come out with aesthetically pleasing green furniture that keeps up with the theme. Adopt nature’s flowy silhouettes and static lines through pieces like the Lulu Ottoman and the Emerge Lounge Chair.
