Balmain stands in somber solidarity with Ukraine

Fashion / March 03, 2022

At the forefront of Balmain’s presentation is a message regarding the current crisis confronting the world. On Instagram, creative director Olivier Rousteing shared his sentiment:

“As we show our collection, we are well aware that there are more important things happening in the world today. It’s hard to feel right about focusing on runways and clothes, as we listen with a heavy heart to the latest news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainians. We are inspired by their dignity, resilience and devotion to freedom. In order to feel a little less helpless, I have donated to the Emergency Ukraine fund at UNHCR @refugees The United Nation Refugee Agency.
I would invite anyone else who shares my concerns to consider making their own donation. We are together for freedom”

It was from a personal experience that the FW 2022 collection features military aspects, showing off how Rousteing has earned his place. Seeing over his 10 year anniversary and the 75th anniversary of the brand, are milestones the fashion industry also celebrates.

As with any Balmain show, the stars showed up. Rousteing’s age and grip on the times made him one of the first adopters when it came to understanding the power of celebrity culture in the Instagram age. Front row attendees included British Vogue’s Edward Enninful, Riverdale stars Charles Melton, and Madelaine Petsch. Football idol Neymar also showed up.

The collection presentation was truly a show with a two tribe dance and the spirit of looking towards what else is Rousteing up to.
