Philophiles, rejoice. Phoebe Philo is launching a namesake brand that is “rooted in exceptional quality and design.”
The announcement comes three years after she left her celebrated run as creative director of Celine. Under Philo, Celine enjoyed “cool girl”/”It brand” status. The collections were much-awaited and the pieces were worn by everyone deemed as style savants and fashion insiders. Even Kanye West wore Celine.
Phoebe Philo, the brand will be a joint venture with LVMH as a minority shareholder. This means we will be seeing Philo, the designer, taking majority control of the label’s direction. In a statement to Business of Fashion, Philo says, “Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling. I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere. To be independent, to govern and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me.”
LVMH enjoyed much success when Philo was at Celine, seeing “increased annual sales from 200 million euros to over 700 million euros.”
Not many details are out yet about Phoebe Philo, only that we should expect more information come January 2022.
